About The UG-RASSR Program

UG-RASSR is the systematic discovery, mentorship and development of young STEM students from the 10 Regions of Guyana.

UG-RASSR is projected to mentor and support 100 students through a sustained programme that leads to an accelerated higher education programme. Essentially this programme is designed to find the best young minds in STEM from around Guyana to strengthen the pipeline for specialization.

Students aged 10 – 12 years and 20 teachers (who will accompany students as chaperones) will be hosted by the University of Guyana to an all expense paid advanced experiential learning opportunity for 4 – 5 successive years. This year’s programme will be held July 16 – 30.

Students will be exposed to a cutting-edge curriculum built around core concepts, problems and applications for Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Integrated Science, Technology and Engineering. Selected topics on biodiversity and environmental stewardship will be incorporated into the programme. The curriculum will be oriented towards preparing students for careers that are expected to be available in Guyana in the future. The programme will be augmented with social and other educational events.

Exploration, discovery, problem solving and accelerated learning are core components of the programme.

About The UG-RASSR Program

The UG-RASSR programme will provide rich and engaging opportunities for students to interact with each other while learning and applying scientific principles in STEM subjects. Students will also be exposed to Guyana’s rich fauna and flora and develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of our local biodiversity, its value and the vital roles it plays in the ecosystem.

The goals of the programme are:

  • Accelerated learning to create a pipeline for specialization in STEM at the post secondary level
  • Increased confidence to ask questions and explore scientific principles
  • Increased interest in learning about scientific principles and applying them to everyday life
  • Increased understanding of how to use STEM principles to solve every day challenges
  • Increased awareness and appreciation of the richness of Guyana’s living resources and the vital role they play in our ecosystem.

Exploration, discovery, problem solving and accelerated learning are core components of the programme.
